ADMISSION IN PROGRESS 2024/2025 CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME IN NATURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Forestry Commission Training Centre (FCTC) is a public training institute under the Forestry Commission and affiliated with to the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Sunyani. It is located at Akyawkrom in the Ejisu Municipality of the Ashanti Region and mandated to train talents (both technical & Professional) for the Forestry Commission and the forest sector industry to support sustainable management and utillisation of forest & wildlife resources. FCTC is admitting students into a Certificate Programme in Natural Resources Management which will enable them to;
(i) qualify as field technician in natural resources management
(ii) work as range supervisor or natural resource supervisor in the forestry/environment-related public sector agencies and departments. E.g., Forestry Commission as range supervisor, technical officer, wildlife ranger, or timber grader.
iii) work in the private sector as forest operations supervisor in plantation development firms, timber firms, wildlife and range management firms, etc
(iv) become self-employed as “forestpreneurs” (Forestry Entrepreneurs) etc.
The Forestry Commission Training Centre (FCTC) is headed by a Director who is responsible for the overall management of the Centre. Supporting the Director is a team of 3 function units (Forestry Units, Wood Industry Units and Wildlife) instructors, field supervisors and technicians .The HR and finance Unit provide support for the smooth operation of the Centre. The Centre also has an 11 member Technical training committee (TTC) that advises support the development and delivery of the training programmers. The TTC comprises the representative of TIDD, WD,FSD, University industry and FCTC staff. It’s primary function is to bear guidance and input into the development of training Programmer for the FC its 4 agencies and industry operators as well providing a governance function in support of the FCTC.

To promote the acquisition of knowledge and technical skills among forestry Commission (FC) staff and orther stakeholders to support a sustainable management and utilization of forest, wildlife and timber resources

Mandates/Function
To coordinate all FC staff training/development in conjunction with corporate HR to achieve the strategic plan of the following .
To equip all categories of FC staff with the requisite skills, knowledge and attitude required for effective performance of their current jobs and foe the career development aimed at achieving the business goals and strategic objectives of the commission.
To provide short-term /refresher technical and managerial courses in forestry, wildlife and wood industry for relevant stakeholders.
To provide consultancy and extension service in forestry,wildlife wood industry and environmental governance
To build strategic partnership with relevant stakeholders for leverages opportunities.
Activities
The FCTC Undertakes three(3) basic activities, These are training ,production of tertiary wood products and rental services including hostel facility.
Training
The training activities at the Centre has been categorize under.
Short-term training courses for all categories of FC staff to sharpen their skills and competences for the performance of their duties
Short-term practical oriented courses for all stakeholders in the Renewable Natural Resources sector.
Additional, the centre run Extension and Consultancy service in forestry, wildlife, wood Industry and environmental governance.
The Centre also runs daytime ,evening and weekends National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) programs in ICT for JHS, SHS, Technical and polytechnic, as well as workers
Production of tertiary wood products
To give pratical demonstration of what the centre offers to the wood industry,it engage in the production of tertiary wood products at competitive prices. among the products the Centre manufactures are panel doors, frames, room and office furniture floor parquet, shoe racks T&G profiles and coffins
Rental Service
The Centre has a lot of facilities that are rental out to the general public at competitive rates These includes a 200-seater capacity conference hall, a football field as well as a big reception area with a serene atmosphere, suitable for social and corporate events.
